A thrilling finish to win Trilby Tour 2022 Qualifier at Dundonald Links

Darren Richardson claimed victory at the 2022 Trilby Tour Qualifier at Dundonald Links by two points after a thrilling finish.

A 7 handicap golfer from Durham City GC, Darren scored a superb 41 points, with a round that contained three birdies… no easy task at Dundonald Links.

One of the earlier starters, Darren took a commanding lead after nine holes, but the field slowly closed in leaving just two golfers fighting for the top spot.

After a front nine of 19 points, Colm Mulcany from Greystones Golf Club went on a charge. With 20 points on the back nine walking off 17, he was just two points behind, with the stunning par 5 left to play.

But things began to unravel, as Colm found the rough with his second shot, and found further trouble with his third, putting the pressure on to score points.

After a dreaded three-putt, Colm failed to score points on the last hole, leaving Darren – who was anxiously watching on – to take victory by just two points.

Darren said “It just worked today, everything went right. I got the putts in the right places because you have to be on some of these greens and I never went in any bunkers. One of those days”.

This win gives Darren a place in one of next years Trilby Tour events, where he will be playing for a place in the Grand Final.

Darren continued, “Its a fantastic course and I’m looking forward to playing in the Trilby Tour next year”.
