Championship of Yorkshire 2023

The second event of the 2023 Trilby Tour took place on what started as a foggy morning in the Yorkshire Wolds, luckily by the time the first group teed it up, the views were crystal clear down the opening Par 4.

The field of golfers both male and female teed it up in the Championship of Yorkshire, with the aim to qualify for the 2023 Grand Final held at Dundonald Links in September.

This time around, the field at Kilnwick Percy was just under double to what there was in the first event of 2023 at Dundonald Links as a total of 91 golfers competed against each other in Pocklington. Once again fashioning the iconic Trilby Tour Glenmuir polo shirts, plus the Trilby Tour logo caps, golfers got the action underway of which was captured live via Content Live Golf who provided live broadcasting of the Championship.

Driffield’s Ryan Wardle set the bar high straight away after posting an early 39 points off a handicap of nine which proved to be the eventual male division one winner.

The other men’s category was the opposite, going down to the final group where Paul Yates pipped both Derek Nolan and James Penney who were on 34 points with Yates finishing one better on a score of 35 points. The Kilnwick Percy ladies section dominated the women’s division as Sue Miller triumphed with a fantastic score of 37 points. Michael Grainger claimed the nearest pin prize on Hole 9 while young Harry Mukerjea delivered an impressive drop-and-stop iron shot into the wind to claim the closest on Hole 15.

All three division winners, walked away with a Motocaddy S-Series electric trolly with both Nearest Pin winners also receiving a prize courtesy of the Tour’s sponsor. The current club captains at Kilnwick Percy did themselves proud and booked their place in this year’s Grand Final as both Trevor Loten and Annika Giles came second in their respective divisions.

Kelly Acton, Catherine Millward and Adele Pitcher all joined Miller and Giles qualifying for the Grand Final as well as Stephen Horrocks, Kevin Vasey, Harrison Brearley, Robert Dreelan, Harry Mukerjea plus Penney, Nolan, Yates, Loten and Wardle who have also qualified from both the men’s divisions.
